Known as the Meadow of Gold, Sonmarg sits at 2,800 metres and serves as the gateway to some of the most spectacular high-altitude terrain in the western Himalayas. Our Glacier & High-Altitude Explorer takes you beyond the tourist circuits into landscapes most visitors never reach.
Day one begins with a pony ride to Thajiwas Glacier, a sprawling wall of ice just two kilometres from the town. Days two and three push further into the Himalayan interior — crossing alpine meadows carpeted with blue poppy and purple iris — before arriving at the pristine Vishansar Lake at 3,710 metres.

Daily Itinerary
1
Day 1
Srinagar to Sonmarg

Drive from Srinagar to Sonmarg (84 km) along the Sindh River valley. Arrive at the hotel, freshen up, and take an acclimatisation evening walk through the main meadow.

Day 2
Thajiwas Glacier Day
+
Morning pony ride to Thajiwas Glacier (4 km one way). Walk on the glacier with your guide and explore the ice formations up close. Return by early afternoon for rest.

Day 3
Vishansar Lake Full-Day Hike
+
Early start for the full-day hike to Vishansar Lake at 3,710 metres (12 km round trip). The trail crosses high alpine meadows with views of Haramukh and Kolahoi peaks. Packed lunch on the lakeshore. Night at the high-altitude mountain lodge.

Day 4
Nihang Glacier Viewpoint & Departure

Morning walk to the Nihang Glacier viewpoint. Return to Sonmarg for checkout and drive back to Srinagar airport.
