Pahalgam's landscape shifts dramatically over just a few kilometres — from pine-forested river valleys to open alpine meadows blanketed in wildflowers. Our Valley of Shepherds Trek follows the seasonal migration routes of Bakarwal nomads through some of the most untouched terrain in Kashmir.
The trek is graded moderate and suitable for those with basic fitness. Each campsite is selected for its scenic position — beside glacier streams, beneath towering firs, or on ridgelines with views stretching to Kolahoi Glacier. All camping equipment, meals and porterage are fully managed by our mountain team.

Daily Itinerary
1
Day 1
Srinagar to Pahalgam

Drive from Srinagar to Pahalgam (95 km) through the Lidder Valley. Arrive at the base hotel, equipment check with the trek guide, and a short orientation walk along the Lidder riverbank.

Day 2
Pahalgam to Aru Valley

Trek to Aru Valley (11 km, ~4 hours). The trail follows the upper Lidder River through dense pine and birch forest. Camp beside the stream in Aru. Evening campfire with the team.

Day 3
Aru to Baisaran Meadow
+
Trek to Baisaran — the iconic open meadow known as the Mini Switzerland of Kashmir (8 km, ~3.5 hours). Arrive early afternoon, leaving the rest of the day to explore the meadow and the surrounding ridgeline.

Day 4
Baisaran Rest & Acclimatisation

Rest and acclimatisation day at Baisaran. Optional gentle hike to the ridge above camp. Photography and birdwatching in the afternoon with your guide.

Day 5
Baisaran to Chandanwari
+
Trek to Chandanwari (14 km, ~6 hours) — the traditional starting point of the Amarnath Yatra. Pass through open glacier-carved valleys and spot marmots along the trail. Camp at Chandanwari at 2,895 metres.

Day 6
Chandanwari to Kolahoi Glacier Viewpoint

Day hike to the Kolahoi Glacier viewpoint — the highest point of the trek at approximately 3,600 metres. Return to Chandanwari camp for the final night under a canopy of stars.
7
Day 7
Return to Pahalgam & Srinagar
+
Morning return trek to Pahalgam (14 km). Transfer to Srinagar on arrival. Trek completed.
